Abstract

The objective of this research paper is to understand the caste disparities in educational institutions and its various dimensions.  Various upper castes developed their own lifestyle and their membership is decided by birth. Each group occupied the status according to their caste. This status has various aspects such as social, economic, political, cultural and psychological and these all can affect the students in educational institutions. To judge these aspects, Indian constitution decides to reserve the seats for Scheduled castes in legislative assemblies because without this compensation they do not have enough power to reach on elite positions. After couple of years this reservation was extended to jobs and educational institutions. Apart from that, another category ‘Other Backward Classes’ got reservation in educational institutions and jobs. These communities do not have enough participation in various fields and these affirmative actions ensure their participation.
