Abstract

Increasing urbanisation in our country has given rise to huge wastes being accumulated which calls for an urgent action from the authorities concerned. The situation has created an urgent need to move to more sustainable waste management techniques along with new and improved management systems and waste management facilities. It can be said that the present waste management systems are inefficient as the wastes accumulated in the society are causing a negative impact on the health and wellness of the general public, the environment and also the economy. The crucial element in an efficient and effective waste management system is to see how a proper segregation of waste is carried out at the origin and what all steps it has to pass through for an effective recycling process to be done to it. The fast population growth combined with the exploitation of resources and the increasing urbanisation due to industrialisation has had a serious negative effect on the environment. Food waste and its accumulation are becoming a critical problem around the globe and are striking serious threats to our society.
