Abstract

With the advent of financial advancement and globalisation, abundant relaxations and extravagances are added to human life. It has resulted in an adverse state of massive damage to bio-diversity, macroclimate change, and ecological destruction. Most of the industrial segments in the world face mishap to deal with environmental glitches. ‘Go Green’ Strategies of banks are aimed to create a cleaner and greener future as Green Banking has a direct effect on the environment. The paper studies the green banking strategies adopted by select Public and Private sector banks in Kottayam, Kerala. Also, an attempt has been made to understand the level of awareness of customers on the green banking initiative of banks and to analyze the effect of demographics on their awareness. The data has been collected from banking customers with the help of a structured questionnaire. A developing nation like India gives prominence to the idea of ecological management and conservation. The paper concludes by drawing the major benefits derived from green banking initiatives to the customers.
